Free DTF File Checker: Is Your PNG Transparent?
Drop in your PNG, JPG or PDF and see how it will print as a DTF transfer: whether the background is transparent, how sharp it is at shirt sizes, and whether stray specks or a white halo will show up. Remove a white background and download a clean transparent PNG in one click.
How to check a DTF file
- Choose your PNG, JPG or PDF, or drag it onto the preview.
- Read the file check. Every row should say Yes or None.
- No transparent background? Set Remove white to Outside and raise How white until the box is gone.
- Look at it on Black shirt and switch to Ink only to spot white halos and stray specks.
- Check the sharpness table for the width you will print, then download the clean PNG.
DTF file questions
What file type is best for DTF transfers?
A PNG with a transparent background, made at 300 dpi at the size you want to print. PDFs with vector art work too. JPG files can't be transparent, so anything around the art prints as a solid box.
How do I know if my PNG is transparent?
Open it in the checker above. If the checkerboard shows around your art and the file check says Yes for transparent background, it is. If you see a white or colored box, the background will print. Set Remove white to Outside and download the clean PNG.
What DPI do I need for DTF printing?
Aim for 300 dpi at the printed size. Around 150 dpi is the lowest that usually still looks fine on a shirt; below that, edges look soft or pixelated. The sharpness table shows the dpi your file has at common print widths like 3.5 in (pocket), 10 to 12 in (full front).
What is a white halo or fringe?
A thin light outline left around the art when a white background was removed. It's easy to miss on a white screen but prints as a white line on dark shirts. Preview on Black shirt and raise Halo cleanup until it's gone.
Why does my transfer have tiny dots around the design?
DTF prints every pixel that isn't fully transparent, even ones you can barely see. Leftover specks from erasing or background removal print as dots. Switch to Ink only to spot them and tick Remove tiny specks.
Is my file uploaded when I use the checker?
No. Everything runs in your browser and your file never leaves your device. You only upload it when you place an order.
Can I fix a JPG or a file with a white background?
Yes, for most logos and graphics. Remove white clears the background and the Download button saves a transparent PNG at full size. Photos or art with lots of white inside may need editing in a design program.
